Open Window Review - the New Literary eZine for Wyoming & Northern Colorado

We are pleased to share the launch of the "Open Window Review" a new literary eZine designed to showcase new work for both existing and ready-to-discover authors from Wyoming, Colorado and around the country.

Working with with the editor in chief Lori Howe we found the ideal venue consistent with the eZine's resources and assisted with the organization and design of both the overall look and feel as well as the first issue being released today!

Open Window Review

I hope you'll check out these new works of poetry, fiction and non-fiction and support the arts wherever you are!

Nothin' but Nail

Another TriX 400 adventure. I shot this on the Mount Margaret Trail near Red Feather Lakes, CO. I love the texture of the wood and the angles created as the timbers have decayed and shifted over the years.

Enjoy!

Film Scan...as promised!

Building in a Puddle

Image0001-edit

© 2006 Stephen Krausse

I liked the reflection of the building in the light rain. Created via a hybrid process of scanning to LR.

Post Processing to crop, remove dust from the scan and a little Nik SEP to pull the texture of the sidewalk below the puddle's surface.

PS - the original shot was inverted, please do not stand on your head in front of your computer or turn your monitor upside down to view...unless you post it all on youtube!

The Scan

I have become obsessed recently with scanning my old (and new) negatives. While this has been immensely time consuming it has had some positive results as well.

Firstly, I'm catalogueing my entire photo library...so I've got that going for me...which is nice.

More importantly, I've dialed in a much more effective black and white film workflow both for customers who prefer film and for my own personal projects.

The downside - I just realized I'm missing one of my favorite rolls - from Billy the Kid's gravesite. Bummer seems like someone's always trying to hunt down 'The Kid'.

Most of the film work won't go in my regular gallery or on Flickr but if you're interested in following any film projects that I start uploading they will be on my 500px page (see the wicked cool badge below!). New film shots forthcoming...

New Media Services!

Do you own or run a business and are searching for ways to bring in new customers, maintain your existing customer base and provide a consistent brand across traditional and new media outlets?

I'm excited to be introducing a new business promotion package!

You may be asking yourself "What does this have to do with Environmental Portraiture?"

... Everything!

You have a lot of options for promotional photography - from DIY iPhone pics to commercial photographers who specialize in portraiture. What makes my New Media Service package different is a comprehensive approach - taking not only great pictures of clients but taking pictures of clients with their brand, product, message and vision in mind. Then together we combine the photos with a unique approach to using new media (aka - 'Social Media') outlets for your own individual business needs.

This is more than a Social Media 'spray and pray' approach but a tailored approach to add value to your business and, more importantly, demonstrate the value of your business to your future and existing customers!

A little Rocky Mountain Bluebird told me...

I was out earlier this summer shooting on the Mount Margaret Trail when this guy just happened to take a break near me. He was very patient as I had an extension tube on my camera for shooting closeup and had to pull that so I could focus on him. The old post is great, next time maybe I'll get to throw in some barbed wire for good measure. In the end though it all worked out.

My Jot Pro Rocks! Visit Adonit.net and get one (even if you have to get an iPad just to use it)!

Seriously! If you have an iPad and you're sick of trying to write on it with those little rubber nubs - check these guys out. They did a Kickstarter Project to launch (which is how I got my Jot Pro) and they are off and running. Absolutely the best stylus for the iPad there is out there. If you draw, write or jot notes on your iPad you'll love this sylus!

It's been a while...

Hi Everyone!

Yes, I realize that it's been a while since I did any updates. I have pictures from the summer that I will be uploading over the next few weeks. For today I just want to point people to my new 500px.com portfolio.

http://500px.com/RemotePhotography

Right now there are a few faves from my main gallery; however, as time goes on I'll be uploading personal projects and shots that don't fit well into my commercial portfolio.

Enjoy!

Hand Made Remote Photography!

Hi Everyone!

I know I haven't posted anything in a while. I've been occupied with creating a more tangible way to display and offer my prints and am happy to announce that my first two are complete.

(download)

I hand make each frame using local woods, acid free adhesives and archival matt and mounting boards. These two were made with clear conservation glass but anti-reflective glass is an option as well.

I'm very pleased to be donating these first two pieces to the Art Thrives silent auction for Childsafe to be held on July 29th at the Fort Collins Country Club.

I am making frames for prints up to 40". Please contact me for more information. In case you're wondering the watermark seen here is embedded in the photo of the frame - the actual frames and pics are watermark free.

The first photo is sunrise at the Pawnee Buttes northeast of Fort Collins shot in May of 2011 and the second is a black and white conversion of an old fencepost at Elkhorn Creek (near Red Feather Lakes, Colorado) shot in May of 2009. The 'May Theme' is either simple coincidence or subconcious choice - I'm not sure which yet.

Enjoy,

Steve
